Reflective supervision is an essential component for any practitioner who is working with infants, children, and young families. It is a process in which supervisees are given reflective space to wonder about the families they are working with and to understand their own reactions (thoughts, ideas, sensations and emotions) that are evoked in working with family relationships.Â
At Lifespan, experienced supervisors support supervisees to gain a deeper understanding of their cases, and to remain open to what the family brings to them.

The Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood is designed to help advanced infants and early childhood mental health professionals to identify children at risk using a developmentally specific diagnostic classification system.
The model considers the range of factors that contribute to mental health difficulties of infants and young children—from medical and developmental disorders to exposure to adversity, such as trauma or the stress. When mental health concerns are identified early, practitioners are able to redirect the course and place children who are at risk on a pathway for healthy development.

MBT SKILLS TRAINING
BY APPROVED MENTALIZATION-BASED TREATMENT TRAINERS
Mentalisation Based Treatment has accredited pathways for practitioners and supervisors. Outside of these pathways, trainers at Lifespan are authorised to offer targeted skills-based training in MBT. We cover the basics of the approach, and practice in the application of these skills.
