Individual and Group Psychotherapy for Adolescents and adults

Older Adults and Individual Couple Therapy:

Families in later life go through a number of changes, as children grow and move away, work roles change, and relationships begin or end. Indeed, Older Adult roles vary greatly in our society, from retiring or continuing to work; "empty-nesters" or actively caring for grandchildren; managing or caring for a loved one with health difficulties, or dealing with loss; facing isolation, or a relationship that may be struggling.

We provide a supportive space for your experience of these - and other - life transitions that may be causing emotional distress. We will collaborate with you to to develop a treatment plan, using evidence-based approaches, to meet your therapy goals.

Group Therapy:

The Lighthouse MBT Parenting Program is a group therapy program which aims to promote sensitive caregiving in parents. The programme is designed to enhance parents’ capacity for curiosity about their child’s inner world, to help parents ‘see’ (understand) their children clearly, to make sense of misunderstandings in their relationship with their child and to help parents inhibit insensitive responses in those moments of misunderstanding and to repair the relationship when strained.

Ideas to Understand Relationships – Family & Friends Group :

This is a group for family & friends who have a loved one in treatment with Lifepsan Psychology receiving Mentalization Based Treatment and who wish to know more about the treatment to better be able to support their loved one.

Ideas to Understand Relationships:

An Explicit Mentalizing Group

This group is designed to introduce the idea of Mentalizing, which is a skill of the mind about minds and forms the foundation of a treatment available at Lifespan Psychology.  The group is a 7-week group that aims to introduce and discuss the concept of Mentalization, to begin to develop an awareness of how you make sense of yourself and others in terms of mental states (needs, desires, feelings, beliefs, goals, purposes, and reasons) and to begin to consider how Mentalization might help you better understand yourself and your relationships

Long-term Group Psychotherapy:

Group Psychotherapy aims to achieve a healthier integration within the individual and in their network of relationships.  Focusing on the relationship between the individual and the group places emphasis on the essentially social nature of human experience.  Group Psychotherapy can help people strengthen their ability to make relationships and to better understand and manage the feelings that emerge during this process i.e to mentalize. Group Psychotherapy requires a level of commitment as it takes places over months and years rather than weeks.  A common treatment length is 18 months.  It may benefit people who have undertaken brief or skills focused therapy yet continue to have difficulties in their lives and relationships.

PARENTAL INDIVIDUAL THERAPY; PARENT-INFANT/CHILD THERAPY; GROUP PARENTING THERAPY
