My Story

I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and psychotherapist. Over the past 30 years I have worked with children across the developmental age span and their parents in addition to adults who are trying to make sense of their own lives and backgrounds.

I completed my generalist psychiatric training in Perth and then moved to Sydney for infant child and adolescent training. I was fortunate to work in perinatal and specialist child and adolescent settings in both private practice and public mental health services which gave me a deep appreciation of the importance of the quality of relationships from infancy. I returned to Perth in 2005 and have worked within different community teams within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services until 2023.

My experience working with children with a range of mental health difficulties has reinforced the importance of working relationally in families. Helping parents to deepen their understanding of their own minds and their children’s experience and needs  leads to stronger more satisfying relationships within families and improves mental health and wellbeing regardless of diagnosis.

I am qualified as an MBT practitioner and accredited as a supervisor and have experience in delivering Circle of Security and Lighthouse parenting groups. I provide individual and group reflective psychotherapy supervision utilising a mentalizing and relational framework. I provide teaching in the postgraduate training program in psychiatry.
